Overview[]
Hange Zoë is a character originating from Attack on Titan.
Initially just another Scout who despised the Titans with all their heart, Hange Zoë would come to take an unorthodox approach to Titan research and developed an extremely eccentric personality that cared for the Titans that they were experimenting on.
During an operation to retake Shiganshina District, Hange was injured in an explosion, leaving their left eye blind, though not out of action. Knowing that he would die soon in a suicide attack, Erwin Smith named Hange to be the Commander of the Survey Corps after his death. Following the discovery of the mystery of the island of Paradis and the truth about the outside world, Hange and what remained of the Survey Corps were awarded medals for their efforts.
Years later, with the assistance of several Marleyan defectors, Hange would to modernize Paradis's military to be up to date with other countries. During a retaliation attack against Marley for their actions, Eren Yeager takes drastic measures unauthorized by his superiors, leading to his arrest. Eren would escape and overthrow the leadership of the Survey Corps with his radicalized followers, which made Hange go on the run along with a now severely injured Levi Ackerman. Hange eventually encounters a Marleyan general and Warrior, and allies with them and several Survey Corps defectors to prevent Eren's plan; the destruction of humanity outside the walls.
Trivia[]
- Hajime Isayama, the Attack on Titan manga author, has said that Hange's gender is "up to the readers interpretation" and is intentionally drawn androgynously. However, in the anime, Hange is referred to with She/Her pronouns and is animated in a more feminine manner.
