Totems are a new game mechanic that was added to Dead by Daylight with Patch 1.3.0.
There are two types of Totems, Dull Totems and Hex Totems. Each map features a grand total of 5 Totems at the beginning of a trial.
Survivors can walk up to a Totem and cleanse it, which will destroy the Totem and in case of a Hex Totem, deactivate its associated Hex. This action also rewards them with Bloodpoints in the Boldness category.
The cleansing action by default takes 14 seconds to complete and resets if the Survivor interrupts it.
Dull Totems
Dull Totems are unlit Totems found in random locations across the map.
If the Killer doesn't use any Hex Perk or just Hex: No One Escapes Death prior to its activation post-exit, all five Totems are dull.
Cleansing a Dull Totem will reward the Survivor with 600 Bloodpoints.
Hex Totems
Hex Totems are a special kind of Totem. A randomly chosen Dull Totem is made into a Hex Totem if the Killer equipped one of the currently 15 available Hex Perks.
Each Hex Perk is tied to its own Hex Totem and it is not discernible for either the Killer nor the Survivors, which Hex is tied to which Totem.
Cleansing a Hex Totem will reward the Survivor with 1000 Bloodpoints and disable the associated Hex Perk for the remainder of the trial.
Tip
- Hex: Thrill of the Hunt will decrease a Survivor's cleansing speed based on how many Totems are left on the map.
