Totems are Props and a Game Mechanic that were added to Dead by DaylightIconHelp DBDlogo with Patch 1.3.0.

Overview

There are 3 states a Totem can be in: its default state as a Dull Totem, its cursed state as either a Hex or Rekindled Totem, or its blessed state as a Boon Totem.

Upon loading into a Trial, 5 Totems will be scattered around The Trial, against or around different props.

Interactions

There are 4 different Interactions with Totems:

Cleansing

Atl Hud Icon Cleansing
Only available to Survivors

Survivors can walk up to any Dull or Hex Totem and interact with it, cleansing it in the process.
This interaction takes 14 seconds to complete for either type.
Killers can increase this time by making use of the Perks Hex: Thrill of the HuntIconPerks hexThrillOfTheHunt or ThanatophobiaIconPerks thanatophobia.
Boon Totems cannot be cleansed.

Cleansing a Hex Totem destroys it, leaving only rubble in its location that Survivors can no longer interact with.
If the Totem was a Hex Totem, doing this will also dispel its Curse permanently.
Cleansed Totems cannot be re-hexed.

Cleansing a Hex Totem rewards Survivors with BloodpointsIconHelp bloodpoints in the BoldnessDailyRitualIcon boldness Category, as well as points towards the LightbringerDailyRitualIcon objectives Emblem.

Blessing

Atl Hud Icon Blessing
Only available to Survivors

Survivors can walk up to any Dull or Hex Totem and bless it, granted that they have at least one Boon Perk equipped.
This interaction takes 14 seconds to complete for a Dull Totem and 28 seconds to complete for a Hex Totem, as blessing a Hex Totem applies an Action Speed debuff of -50 %.

Blessing a Dull or Hex Totem will imbue it with the powers of the Boon Perks, and additionally in the case of a Hex Totem, dispel its Curse permanently.
Cleansed Totems cannot be re-hexed.

Snuffing

Atl Hud Icon Snuffing
Only available to Killers

A Killer can walk up to any Boon Totem and snuff it out.
This interaction takes 1 second to complete.

Snuffing out a Boon Totem will dispel its Blessing.
Snuffed-out Totems can be re-blessed.

Rekindling

Only available to Killers

A Killer using the Perk Hex: PentimentoIconPerks hexPentimento can see the AuraIconHelp auras of and walk up to any remains of cleansed Totem and rekindle them, creating a Rekindled Totem.
This interaction takes 1 second.

Cleansing a Rekindled Totem prompts The Entity to remove the remains completely from the environment, making a second rekindling impossible.

Totem Types

There are 4 different types of Totems:

Dull Totems

Dull Totems are unlit Totems found in random locations throughout the Trial Grounds.

Unless the Killer uses any Hex Perk, or Hex: No One Escapes DeathIconPerks hexNoOneEscapesDeath or Hex: PlaythingIconPerks hexPlaything prior to their activation, all five Totems will be dull.

Cleansing a Dull Totem will reward the Survivor with 1,000 Bloodpoints.

It takes Survivors 14 seconds to cleanse a Dull Totem.

Hex Totems

FulliconStatusEffects cursed

Hex Totems are a special kind of Totem, identifiable by the lit candles underneath them.

If the Killer uses any Hex Perk (with the exceptions of Hex: No One Escapes DeathIconPerks hexNoOneEscapesDeath, Hex: PlaythingIconPerks hexPlaything, or Hex: Face the DarknessIconPerks hexFaceTheDarkness, which will not light their potential Totems until their activation), a randomly chosen Dull Totem will become a Hex Totem at the start of the Trial.
Each Hex Perk is tied to its own Hex Totem.
Neither the Killer nor the Survivors have any means to discern, which Hex is associated with which Hex Totem.

Cleansing a Hex Totem will reward the Survivor with 1,500 Bloodpoints and dispel its Curse.

Cleansing a Hex Totem will trigger a distinct map-wide audio cue of an explosive thunderclap.

It takes Survivors 14 seconds to cleanse a Hex Totem.

Boon Totems

FulliconStatusEffects blessed
Atl Hud Icon BoonTotem

Boon Totems are another special kind of Totem, identifiable, and differing from Hex Totems, by a bluish shimmer emanating from the candles underneath them, as well as an audible drone sound effect whenever someone is within their range (24 metres).

If a Survivor uses any Boon Perk, they can walk up to any Dull or Hex Totem to bless it, simultaneously applying the effects of all of their equipped Boon Perks, attaching them to the Totem.

If a Survivor blesses a Hex Totem, its Curse will be replaced with a Boon.

Killers can snuff out a Boon Totem with a brief interaction, rewarding them with 1,500 Bloodpoints and removing the Blessing.
However, Survivors can re-bless the Totem indefinitely.

Boon Totems cannot be cleansed.
The creation of a Boon Totem is accompanied by one of 3 distinct map-wide audio cues of thunderclap, similar to that of a destroyed Hex Totem, but less explosive.

It takes Survivors 14 seconds to bless a Dull Totem and 28 seconds to bless a Hex Totem.

Rekindled Totems

Rekindled Totems are a secondary form of Hex Totems.
Currently, the only way to create them is by using the Hex Perk Hex: PentimentoIconPerks hexPentimento, which allows the Killer to rekindle the broken remains of a cleansed Totem.

Rekindled Totems work the same as a Hex Totem, with the sole difference that once they are cleansed again, The Entity will completely remove the broken remains from the environment, making any further interaction impossible.

Survivors cannot bless Rekindled Totems.
