The Observer is a Character of Dead by Daylight.
Overview
The Observer lives in a Sub-Realm that is shielded from The Entity.
He is the narrator of all Tome entries found in The Archives.
He could originally be seen sitting in an armchair in the library when entering The Archives, facing away from the Player and playing with the Auris up until Tome 12, when he disappeared.
Arcus
The Arcus Lore entries tell the story of The Observer and the memories he discovers on his journeys through the Fog.
Lore
The Observer appears to be held prisoner in a mysterious Tower located somewhere in the Realm of The Entity.
In Arcus 02, he mentions that he was not the first to have been imprisoned in said Tower and most of the previous occupants have left journals and noted down their observations, which The Observer now peruses.
In Arcus 08, The Observer reveals the three key reasons for his ending up in the Realms of The Entity:
- He had an interest in Celestials, which ultimately led him to discover The Entity
- He witnessed the destruction of an entire world, which prompted him to discover more about this cosmic Titan.
- He went against "The Council", which ultimately led to his banishment within the very thing he had tried to destroy.
The Observer possesses a device called "The Auris", with which he can probe the Black Fog and find memories and stories within its Realms.
The device is capable of peering into the memories of those who have entered The Fog.
Tome Lore
The Observer is the sole character to always come with new Lore in a given Tome.
The Lore either reveals new information about himself or about other characters, whose memories he pulls from The Fog using the Auris:

Narrations
- See: Tomes and The Archives
The Observer narrated all Tome entries in The Archives up to and including Tome 11, when something yet unknown happened to him.
Since Tome 12, The Observer has been missing from his Tower and the Tower itself was left in disarray.
Since then, the entries for The House of Arkham are narrated by an unknown woman, likely a fellow explorer of the Fog, who seems to be searching for disciples of a cult named The Black Serpent.

Trivia
- On the 3 Year Anniversary Livestream, The Observer was announced to have been called "The Archivist" during his development.
- Attentive Players of the Public Test Build for Patch 5.7.0 noticed that there appears to have been a fight in the library: the armchair is thrown to the ground and there are scratches and footprints on the floor.
The Observer is missing and only the Auris remains floating in the middle of the room.- Some time after The Observer is missing, the Tomes' cover have been changed to be the same, instead of uniquely colored like when The Observer was present.
