Talk:Herman Carter

Seriously the doctor is based on a real-life doctor in China, named Yang Yongxin, who is rumored to (and likely he REALLY DOES ) use shock therapy, punishment and various other methods to inflict mind-control on internet-addicted youths. Yang is infamous among Chinese—— especially gamers ——and was voted to be the most demonic figure for a killer in DbD.

And all that blabbering (yes, that's what it is) is contributing what exactly? Don't get me wrong, your enthusiasm about him is lovely, but I have zero idea what your point is.

I think the point they were trying to make, in their own rather obscure fashion, is that Yongxin isn't mentioned anywhere in the article. Maybe it could be added to the Trivia section? There is an interesting Wikipedia article that could be referenced.

There's no factual evidence that the Doctor was based on him, so it won't be added to the Wiki, end of discussion.

Is there factual evidence that "Carter is likely named after one of several Nazi doctors"? I haven't come across any thus far, so I'd be interested in seeing the validation for that.

No, I didn't notice that that was added.

Maybe its Walter Freeman...

We don't go by speculation. Doc (talk) 10:18, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

There seems to be plenty of speculations around some of the trivia tidbits, I think. Plus I agree with OP— wasn't there a community poll or something where people voted to add a killer based on the Chinese "doctor?" In addition, the trivia itself mentions that Herman Carter's name was originally supposed to be Chinese. The Chinese doctor used to treat people with internet addictions, & I think Fei Ming's hobby is similar to that; so it's not too far fetched to think Herman was based on this Chinese doctor.

As I told the other guy: we don't go add inspired characters that are pure speculation. I was there at the time, there was no such community poll. And no, Herman Carter's name wasn't supposed to be Chinese, his character originally was intended to be, but ultimately wasn't, and that's it. This discussion is closed as far as I'm concerned. Okay, so you said you don't go around with speculations. How is it then that The Nurse's trivia states that she "might've been" inspired by the Nurses in Silent Hill? How is that fair? If similarity allows for (harmless) speculation in the Nurses's case, then I believe it's perfectly justifiable to add a small line stating that The Doctor might've been inspired by a Chinese psychiatrist as well. Because in case of the Nurse, the devs had hinted at the Silent Hill Nurses being their point of inspiration. They never did for Doctor. I suggest you leave it be now, because we will not add that trivia bit unless the devs themselves mention that connection. Doc (talk) 11:29, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
