Protection Hits are a core Gameplay Mechanic for Survivors IconHelpLoading survivor.png in Dead by Daylight IconHelp DBDlogo.png.

They were first used in a Perk's mechanics with the introduction of We're Gonna Live Forever IconPerks wereGonnaLiveForever.png in Patch 1.6.0.


Protection Hits are exclusively used as a trigger condition for a handful of Perks IconHelp perks.png.

Protection Hit Tokens are accumulated by triggering the Protection Hit Score Event.


The Protection Hit Score Event can be triggered once every 3 seconds under the following conditions:

  • Get hit by the Killer while within 10 metres of an injured Survivor.
  • Get hit by the Killer while they are carrying a Survivor on their shoulder.


The following Perks make use of Protection Hits:

Forced Penance}} Forced Penance

Those who stand in the way of duty will suffer harsh judgement.

Survivors who take a Protection Hit suffer from the Broken IconStatusEffects broken.png Status Effect for the next 60/70/80 seconds.

Mettle of Man}} Mettle of Man

Evil has a way of always finding you.

After triggering your third Protection Hit, Mettle of Man activates and you are protected by the Endurance IconStatusEffects endurance.png Status Effect:

  • Any damage taken that would put you into the Dying State IconHelp dying.png from the Injured State IconHelp injured.png is blocked.
  • When you are healed again, your Aura IconHelp auras.png will be revealed to the Killer whenever you are farther than 12/14/16 metres away.

Mettle of Man deactivates the next time you are put into the Dying State.

Increases (+100 %) the odds of being the Obsession.

The Killer can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.

We're Gonna Live Forever}} We're Gonna Live Forever

Your few friends deserve the best protection.

When healing a dying Survivor, your Healing speed is increased by 100 %.

Performing any of the following actions has We're Gonna Live Forever gain 1 Token:

  • Performing a Safe Hook Rescue.
  • Taking a Protection Hit for an injured Survivor.
  • Stunning the Killer to rescue a carried Survivor.
  • Blinding the Killer to rescue a carried Survivor.

Each Token grants a stack-able 25 % bonus to all Bloodpoint gains, up to a maximum of 50/75/100 %.

The bonus Bloodpoints are only awarded post-Trial.
