Overview[]
Maps are used to track and reveal the Auras of Props located throughout the Trial Grounds.
Tracking objects is a passive ability of the Map and merely requires to come within a certain distance (by default 8 metres) of a track-able Prop for it to get added to the Map.
Original Map[]
The original and only Map up to Patch 1.1.2:
Map | An old piece of parchment made out of a skin-like material that is rolled and sealed with an uncoloured leather string.
Holding and channelling the Map unlocks great potential in your Aura-reading abilities, revealing the Aura
The Map tracks any of the following objects:
The Map lasts for 20 seconds. |

New Map[]
Patch 1.1.2 added the Rainbow Map as a new variation to the Game:
Rainbow Map | An piece of parchment made out of oddly fresh skin with blood on its edge that has yet to dry, and that is rolled and sealed with multiple coloured ropes and cords.
Holding and channelling the Rainbow Map unlocks great potential in your Aura-reading abilities, revealing the Aura
The Rainbow Map tracks any of the following objects:
The Rainbow Map lasts for 20 seconds. "It disheartens me. All this unspeakable knowledge and gruelling effort and yet nothing tangible, nothing usable to get out of this nightmare." — Vigo's Journal |

Add-ons[]
The following list features all available Add-ons for the Map:
Icon | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Map Addendum | A fragmented piece of a thick fibrous material. A partial and faded map is drawn on it which by itself is useless.
| |
Yellow Wire | A small electrical wire. Both ends are heavily damaged like it has been forcefully torn out of its intended location. Can be tied around the Map to enhance its Aura-reading ability.
| |
Unusual Stamp | A wooden stamp with a cross-hatched rubber pad used to mark documents. It is unclear as to how or by whom this stamp was originally used.
| |
Retardant Jelly | A slimy, translucent substance with a ghastly lavender shade. This jelly from unknown origin is highly resistant to heat.
| |
Red Twine | A bristly and rough piece of twine of a deep red colour. Can be tied around the Map to enhance its Aura-reading ability.
| |
Glass Bead | A strange bead circled with gold that can be used to magnify the map and mark a specific position. The bead emits an energy which can be felt and seen by Survivors. Press the Secondary Action button while using the Map to use the Glass Bead:
| |
Odd Stamp | A stamp carved out of sturdy blonde wood. The text found at the base is incomprehensible: "kw'zvre'od".
| |
Black Silk Cord | A smooth black cord with a soft appearance. Can be tied around the Map to enhance its Aura-reading ability.
| |
Crystal Bead | An intricate set of lenses wrapped up in an astonishingly complex apparatus. The gears controlling the lenses' focus move by themselves as to focus on something invisible to humans.

Change Log[]
Patch 4.2.0[]
- Updated the model of the Map Survivors equip as part of the graphical update The Realm Beyond - Part One.
Trivia[]
- During the early months after release, Players frequently joked about the in-game icon for the Map looking a bit like a Burrito.
- This inspired the Developers to name the Survivor's fourth Community Challenge during the 1 Year Anniversary "Stuffed Burrito".
Detective's Hunch[]
- Detective's Hunch
reveals the Auras
of nearby Generators
, Chests
, and Totems
after repairing a Generator.
These objects will automatically be added to the Map, even if that Map does not normally have the ability to track them.
