During my latest ordeal I found a key. I have never stumbled upon anything like it. And I have spent more days inside this limbo than I can remember. This key almost scorched my hand. It felt as if sat upon great power. Everything became so much clearer and sight and sound hit me with great force. I suspect also that it is used to open something. But I have not had the time to understand its purpose fully. But my heart tells me that somewhere I will find a keyhole. | ![]() |

Overview[]
The main use of Keys, with the notable exception of the Broken Key , is the ability to open the Hatch
manually for 10 seconds any time it becomes visible in the Trial.
Additionally, with the use of Add-ons , Keys allow Survivors to read Auras
of other Survivors and the Killer depending on the Add-ons one equips.
Original Key[]
The Skeleton Key was the original and only Key up to Patch 1.1.2:
Skeleton Key | A tarnished and crooked Key, vibrating with ominous power. Its power cannot be triggered by itself. Various objects can be attached to its jump ring, which channels the Skeleton Key's power into various effects.
The Skeleton Key's Aura-reading abilities can be used for 30 seconds. |

New Keys[]
Patch 1.1.2 introduced 2 new Keys to the Game:
Broken Key | The bow and shank of a key, vibrating with remnant power. Its power cannot be triggered by itself. Various objects can be attached to its jump ring, which channels the Broken Key's power into various effects.
The Broken Key's Aura-reading abilities can be used for 10 seconds. | |
---|---|---|
Dull Key | A bent and dull Key that once held great power. Its power cannot be triggered by itself. Various objects can be attached to its jump ring, which channels the Dull Key's power into various effects.
The Dull Key's Aura-reading abilities can be used for 5 seconds. |
Add-ons[]
The following list features all available Add-ons for the Key:
Icon | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Prayer Rope | Tightly knitted rope used in praying rituals.
"Pray all you want, your words are getting lost somewhere up there, in The Fog." | |
Scratched Pearl | A porous and scratched white pearl. A minuscule jump ring allows the pearl to be attached to the Key.
| |
Prayer Beads | A chain of matte beads of various sizes used in praying ritual.
| |
Eroded Token | A heavily worn out token made of brass. If an inscription or drawing was once engraved in it, it has today completely disappeared. Can be attached to the Key using its jump ring to channel the Key's Aura-reading ability.
| |
Gold Token | A gold token with a dull appearance. Both faces are smooth and void of any inscriptions. Can be attached to the Key using its jump ring to channel the Key's Aura-reading ability.
| |
Weaved Ring | A mundane key ring in appearance with an unusual bluish dark sheen. The ring binds the Key to the user, preventing its loss even in the darkest of times.
| |
Milky Glass | This opaque piece of glass emits a dull vibrating noise. When the Key is used to unlock the Hatch, the glass token protects the Key from breaking, channelling The Black Fog's energy into the glass instead.
| |
Blood Amber | A blood-red amber striped with black veins. The amber is warm to the touch. Can be attached to the Key using its jump ring to channel the Key's Aura-reading ability.
| |
Unique Wedding Ring | An engraved wedding ring that emerged from The Fog and resonates with an indescribable and incomprehensible energy.
Lowers the odds of becoming the Killer's initial Obsession by -100 %. |
Change Log[]
Patch 4.2.0[]
- Updated the model of the Key Survivors equip as part of the graphical update The Realm Beyond - Part One.
Patch 5.1.0[]
- Nerf: a depleted Key can no longer open the Hatch
.
- This is a minor nerf as it only really affects Keys brought into a Trial, rather than those found in Chests, as the latter lack any Aura-reading Add-ons, unless one uses Ace in the Hole
