Dbd-journal-key.png Quotes left.png During my latest ordeal I found a key. I have never stumbled upon anything like it. And I have spent more days inside this limbo than I can remember. This key almost scorched my hand. It felt as if sat upon great power. Everything became so much clearer and sight and sound hit me with great force. I suspect also that it is used to open something. But I have not had the time to understand its purpose fully. But my heart tells me that somewhere I will find a keyhole. Quotes right.png

Keys are a type of Item IconHelp items.png Survivors IconHelpLoading survivor.png can use in Dead by Daylight IconHelp DBDlogo.png.

Overview[]

The main use of Keys, with the notable exception of the Broken Key FulliconItems brokenKey.png, is the ability to open the Hatch IconHelp hatch.png manually for 10 seconds any time it becomes visible in the Trial.

Additionally, with the use of Add-ons IconHelp addons.png, Keys allow Survivors to read Auras IconHelp auras.png of other Survivors and the Killer depending on the Add-ons one equips.

Original Key[]

The Skeleton Key was the original and only Key up to Patch 1.1.2:

Skeleton Key}}
Skeleton Key A tarnished and crooked Key, vibrating with ominous power.

The Skeleton Key's power cannot be triggered by itself.
Various objects can be attached to its jump ring, which channels the Skeleton Key's power into various effects:

  • Must be equipped with Add-ons IconHelp addons.png to unlock its Aura-reading abilities.
  • Can be consumed to open a closed Hatch IconHelp hatch.png, if not depleted of Charges.

The Skeleton Key's Aura-reading abilities can be used for 30 seconds.

New Keys[]

Patch 1.1.2 introduced 2 new Keys to the Game:

Broken Key}}
Broken Key The bow and shank of a key, vibrating with power.

The Broken Key's power cannot be triggered by itself.
Various objects can be attached to its jump ring, which channels the Broken Key's power into various effects:

  • Must be equipped with Add-ons IconHelp addons.png to unlock its Aura-reading abilities.
  • Cannot be used to open a closed Hatch IconHelp hatch.png.

The Broken Key's Aura-reading abilities can be used for 10 seconds.

Dull Key}}
Dull Key A bent and dull Key that once held great power.

The Dull Key's power cannot be triggered by itself.
Various objects can be attached to its jump ring, which channels the Dull Key's remaining power into various effects:

  • Must be equipped with Add-ons IconHelp addons.png to unlock its Aura-reading abilities.
  • Can be consumed to open a closed Hatch IconHelp hatch.png, if not depleted of Charges.

The Dull Key's Aura-reading abilities can be used for 5 seconds.

Add-ons[]

The following list features all available Add-ons IconHelp addons.png for the Key:

Icon Name Description
Prayer Rope}}
Prayer Rope Tightly knitted rope used in praying rituals. Can be attached to the Key.
  • Adds 10 seconds of use to the Key.

"Pray all you want, your words are getting lost somewhere up there, in the Fog."

Scratched Pearl}}
Scratched Pearl A porous and scratched white pearl. A minuscule jump ring allows the pearl to be attached to the Key.
  • Moderately increases Key Aura-reading range.
Prayer Beads}}
Prayer Beads A chain of matte beads of various sizes used in praying ritual. Can be attached to the Key.
  • Adds 15 seconds of use to the Key.
Eroded Token}}
Eroded Token A heavily worn out token made of brass. If an inscription or drawing was once engraved in it, it has today completely disappeared. Can be attached to the Key using its jump ring to channel the Key's Aura-reading ability.
  • Reveals Survivors' Auras when within a range of 24 metres.
Gold Token}}
Gold Token A gold token with a dull appearance. Both faces are smooth and void of any inscriptions. Can be attached to the Key using its jump ring to channel the Key's Aura-reading ability.
  • Reveals Survivors' Auras when within a range of 48 metres.
Weaved Ring}}
Weaved Ring A mundane key ring in appearance with an unusual bluish dark sheen. The ring binds the Key to the user, preventing its loss even in the darkest of times.
  • Do not lose the Key upon death, lose this Add-on instead.
Milky Glass}}
Milky Glass This opaque piece of glass emits a dull vibrating noise. When the Skeleton or Dull Key is used to unlock a Black Lock, the glass token protects the Key from breaking, channelling the Black Fog's energy into the glass.
  • Do not lose the Key when unlocking the Hatch IconHelp hatch.png, lose this Add-on instead.
Blood Amber}}
Blood Amber A blood-red amber striped with black veins. The amber is warm to the touch. Can be attached to the Key using its jump ring to channel the Key's Aura-reading ability.
  • Reveals the Killer's Aura when within a range of 32 metres.
  • Tremendously decreases Key Efficiency.
Unique Wedding Ring}}
Unique Wedding Ring An engraved wedding ring that emerged from The Fog and resonates with an indescribable and incomprehensible energy.
  • Reveals the Obsession's Aura IconHelp auras.png.
  • Reduces the odds of being the Obsession.

Change Log[]

Patch 4.2.0[]

Patch 5.1.0[]

  • Nerf: a depleted Key can no longer open the Hatch IconHelp hatch.png.
    • This is a minor nerf as it only really affects Keys brought into a Trial, rather than those found in Chests, as the latter lack any Aura-reading Add-ons, unless one uses Ace in the Hole IconPerks aceInTheHole.png.
