Overview[]
Armin Arlert is one of the main protagonists of Attack on Titan.
An outcast in Shiganshina District, Armin was exceptionally curious about the world beyond the walls, leading him to be bullied by many of the other children. He quickly developed a friendship with another outcast, Eren Yeager, who was inspired by his vision to leave the walls someday.
After the fall of Shiganshina District, Armin is left orphaned when his grandfather is drafted to "fight" against the Titans and is killed. With nowhere and no one left to go to, Armin decides to join the military with Eren and Mikasa. In training, Armin's physical performance is noted to be extremely poor, but is recognized for his high intelligence. Despite this, he does not manage to graduate top 10. After Eren is revealed to be a Titan shapeshifter and is recruited into the Survey Corps, he and Mikasa follow suit along with multiple others.
Armin's intellect proves to be a key factor in many Survey Corps victories, managing to deduce the identity of the Female Titan and being given a group of soldiers to command by Commander Erwin Smith during the operation to retake Shiganshina District.
During the battle at Shiganshina, Armin is mortally injured by Bertolt Hoover, the Colossal Titan, who burns him and his body to near ash. After Bertolt is defeated, the Survey Corps have an argument on whether Armin or the also dying Commander Erwin should receive a Titan serum to consume Bertolt and receive his powers. With much consideration, Levi chooses Armin, making him the current holder of the Colossal Titan.
