A vast monster of a man with a hideous grin torn across the mask that keeps stalking my mind. The hunter tracks us through the world. His devastating traps are hidden amongst the greenery. Extreme vigilance and a light step is essential in avoiding the clutches of that miserable smiling killer. I have but many times managed to get caught in one of these traps. Feeling how the blunt spikes grind my bones at the same time as that grin comes closing in. It is a constant battle between looking up and looking down. | ||

The Trapper is one of six Killers featured in Dead By Daylight. His gameplay focuses on gathering and setting up lethal bear traps; either in choke points such as windows, corridors, or pathways, or near generators and level exits. He is most effective when chasing down a single target for long periods of time, as he has better footspeed than the survivors, and is able to be "in multiple places at once" thanks to his traps making it difficult for survivors to move about.
Whilst other Killers have always-available special moves such as the Chainsaw, Wailing Bell, and Blink ability, the Trapper is limited by his capacity to find and arm bear traps. Neglecting to trap up areas leaves him at a severe disadvantage, especially since even being remotely close to the area where a survivor is trapped will usually result in a capture.
Background
Evan Macmillan idolised his father. It wasn’t just that he was heir to a great fortune, it was the way he ran the estate. Raised under his firm hand, Evan had taken to running the workforce with an iron hand. Production was always high and the Macmillan Estate prospered under father and son. As Archie Macmillan’s mental health slowly disintegrated, Evan protected him from the herd who wanted a piece of the fortune. No matter what his father asked of him, Evan would do.
When Archie Macmillan finally snapped, Evan became his enforcer in what would become known as the worst mass murder in modern history. They never proved that Evan led over a hundred men into those dark tunnels before detonating the explosives and sealing them to their fate. The tale of the Macmillan Estate is a tale of wealth and power gone very wrong. How many victims fell to the hands of father and son is unknown. No record is ever made of what became of Evan Macmillan. His father is another unsolved puzzle, found in the basement of his own warehouse - dead and abandoned.
Loadout
The Trapper is focused on physical attributes and making use of strength and fear.
The Cleaver
The Cleaver is the primary weapon of the Trapper. For his normal attack, the Trapper swings the Cleaver. It has a very short and narrow hit radius, so ensure that you're directly on the heels of a running survivor. If you miss, the Trapper will briefly stumble, knocked off balance by the brutality of his swing. If the cleaver connects with a survivor, the Trapper will pause to wipe off the blood on his arm. Two strikes, and you're out: If the survivor is hit by the cleaver twice, they will be forced to crawl and will slowly lose health as they bleed out. A survivor who has been forced into this "Dying state" has about three minutes to be healed by a team-mate or they will die. More importantly, when prone, the Trapper can reach down and throw them over his shoulder to carry them to a meat hook for sacrificing.
Bear Trap
The Bear Trap is the secondary weapon of the Trapper: Bear traps are found laying around the map. They can be picked up and set down mostly anywhere. Traps are not armed until picked up and placed. The Trapper starts the game with a single trap in his hands, and can only carry one at once unless using the Trapper's Bag add-on.
After pressing alternate attack, the Trapper bends down and sets the trap, drastically lowering his field of vision for a few seconds. If a survivor walks over an armed trap, the trap will spring and catch one of their legs, where upon they will be trapped in place until either they manage to free themselves, a fellow survivor comes to free them, or the Trapper returns to hoist them onto his shoulder. A trapped survivor will make a lot of noise, alerting the Trapper, and be visible to the Trapper through walls. Getting trapped counts as one "Hit" on the two-hit meter. A survivor who was previously damaged, is then trapped, then manages to free themselves from the trap, will be set into the dying state where they crawl around bleeding out.

Tips
Main article: Hints
- You start with one trap in your inventory, you must gather and manually set the other traps yourself.
- You can carry more than one trap with the Trapper's Bag add-on.
- You can be caught in your own traps and, if you are carrying a survivor, you drop them.
- Being caught in your own trap will not cause harm, but will cause the Trapper to bend over, secluding his field of view, and spend about three seconds reopening the trap.
- A widely used tactic is to set a trap slightly in front of a hooked survivor. This ensures that a survivor that unhooks themself will land in the trap, or if another survivor attempts to save them, they will be caught in the trap.
- You can also set a trap directly below a hooked survivor. If another survivor doesn't disarm the trap first, the hooked survivor will get caught in it the moment they are "rescued".
- A good place to put a trap is in front of a pallet. Putting on a side rather than in the middle insures that if a survivor tries to bring one down by moving to the other side, they will get caught, as well as having a 50% chance of catching survivors that don't move to the other side and simply bring it down.
- Traps are near invisible in grass.
- Traps are a bright yellow, and can stand out on the ground, but may blend in on certain structures.
- A very commonly used strategy is to hook a player in the basement, and saturate any entry/exit points (pallets, windows,) with traps. This works especially well if the basement is in the Killer's Shack.
