Evan MacMillan — The Trapper

		There is a vast monster of a man with a hideous grin torn across the mask that keeps stalking my every move. Similar to a hunter, he tracks us, priming devastating traps amongst the greenery. Extreme vigilance and a light step is essential in avoiding the blood-curdling clench of a bear trap or the clutches of what I've taken to calling "The Miserable Smiling Killer". I have but many times managed to get caught in one of these traps. I have nothing but a fear for the feeling of blunt trap spikes grinding against my bones or for the heavy and deliberate footsteps which always inevitably reveal a plastered, sadistic grin. With the traps and the Trapper, it has so far been a constant battle between looking up and looking down.

Evan MacMillan or "The Trapper" is one of 40 Killers currently featured in Dead by Daylight.

He was introduced as a member of the original Killer Trio that released with the Game on 14 June 2016.

Overview

Armed with a bag of Bear Traps, The Trapper specialises in catching unsuspecting Survivors.
By placing traps in high-traffic areas and thick patches of grass, he creates a deadly area that forces Survivors to move with caution.
When dealing with The Trapper, a simple misstep can prove fatal.

The Trapper is an area-control Killer, able to apply pressure across the Map by placing deadly Bear Traps for Survivors to step into.

His personal Perks, Unnerving Presence, Brutal Strength, and Agitation, allow him to chase and carry Survivors more effectively.

He is focused on physical attributes and making use of his strength and the Survivors' fear.

Lore

Evan MacMillan idolised his father. It wasn't just that he was heir to a great fortune, it was the way he ran the estate. Raised under his firm hand, Evan had taken to running the workforce with an iron hand. Production was always high and the MacMillan Estate prospered under father and son.

As Archie MacMillan's mental health slowly disintegrated, Evan protected him from the herd who wanted a piece of the fortune. No matter what his father asked of him, Evan would do.

When Archie MacMillan finally snapped, Evan became his enforcer in what would become known as the worst mass murder in modern history. They never proved that Evan lead over a hundred men into those dark tunnels before detonating the explosives and sealing them to their fate. The tale of the MacMillan Estate is a tale of wealth and power gone very wrong.

How many victims fell to the hands of father and son is unknown. No record is ever made of what became of Evan MacMillan. His father is another unsolved puzzle, found trapped in the locked basement of his own warehouse - starved and abandoned.

The Trapper comes with 3 Perks that are unique to him:

	Agitation	You get excited in anticipation of hooking your prey. When carrying a Survivor, you benefit from the following effects: Increases your Movement speed by 6/12/18 %. Increases your Terror Radius by +12 metres. "At some point, the excitement of hooking one of us becomes more important than the desire to kill us."
	Brutal Strength	Your great strength allows you to shred through your prey's defences. Increases the Action speeds for breaking Breakable Walls and dropped Pallets, and damaging Generators by 10/15/20 %. "It is more than muscles. A dark power motivates the beast."
	Unnerving Presence	Your presence alone instils great fear. Survivors repairing or healing within your Terror Radius suffer from the following effects: Increases the Trigger odds of Skill Check by 10 %. Decreases the Success zone of Skill Checks by 40/50/60 %. "Its presence befalls us."

Prestige

Prestiging The Trapper will automatically add Tier I of his Unique Perks to the inventories of all other Killers and unlock the ability for their higher-tiered versions to spawn in their Bloodweb.

Prestige The Trapper twice more to automatically add Tier II and Tier III respectively into the other Killers' inventories.

Unique Skills

When playing as The Trapper in the 2v8 Game Mode, he comes equipped with 2 Skills that are unique to him:

	Trapper Innate Skill	The Trapper starts the Trial with 4 Bear Traps equipped with an additional 8 Bear Traps spawning in the environment. Increases the Setting speed of Bear Traps by +50 %. Increases the Escape time from Bear Traps by +25 %. Neither Killer can be caught in armed Bear Traps when walking over them, but doing so as The Trapper will disarm them, requiring a reset.
	Trapper Team Skill	Whenever The Trapper sets or resets a Bear Trap, he benefits from the following effect: Grants a +150 % Haste Status Effect for 3 seconds. This effect also applies to the other Killer if they are within 16 metres of that Bear Trap.

The Trapper starts the Trial with 2 Bear Traps equipped.
Additionally, 8 Disarmed Bear Traps spawn in random locations throughout the environment.

The Auras of Bear Traps are revealed to The Trapper at all times.

SPECIAL INTERACTION: COLLECTING TRAPS
Press the Interaction button while standing near or above a Bear Trap to retrieve and collect it.
The Trapper may carry up to 2 Bear Traps at a time.

SPECIAL INTERACTION: SETTING TRAPS
Press and hold the Power button to set and arm a carried Bear Trap:

Grants a +7.5 % Haste Status Effect for 5 seconds.
Armed Bear Traps trap and immobilise any Survivor stepping into them.
- This will also injure healthy Survivors.
- Trapped Survivors can try to free themselves from it, which may take several attempts, or wait for another Survivor to rescue them.
Armed Bear Traps also temporarily trap and immobilise The Trapper stepping into them, until he frees his foot and resets it.
- This will cause any carried Survivor to escape from his shoulder.

SPECIAL INTERACTION: RESETTING TRAPS
Press and hold the Power button while standing above a Disarmed Bear Trap to reset and arm it.

SPECIAL INTERACTION: CATCHING SURVIVORS
Press the Interaction button while standing near a Trapped Survivor to lift them out of the Bear Trap and onto The Trapper's shoulder, immediately allowing him to carry them.

	Coffee Grounds	An old rusted can containing damp coffee grounds. Increases the strength of the Haste Status Effect after setting a Bear Trap by +5 % .
	Lengthened Jaws	Jaws with long teeth that dig further into the flesh than a conventional Bear Traps. Survivors who escape from Bear Traps suffer from the Deep Wound Status Effect.
	Serrated Jaws	These replacement trap jaws have saw-like blades, causing awful open wounds when they snap. Survivors injured by a Bear Trap suffer from the Haemorrhage Status Effect until fully healed. "Like a predatory beast, it can smell and track blood."
	Wax Brick	A block of wax used to lower friction and facilitate movement in mechanical parts. Increases the Rescue and Escape times of the Bear Trap by +33 %.
	Fastening Tools	A specialised set of tools used to fasten Bear Traps to ensure their effectiveness. Increases the Rescue and Escape times from the Bear Trap by +25 %. Increases the Setting speed of the Bear Trap by +50 %.
	Rusted Jaws	These Bear Trap jaws are covered with crusty and volatile rust spots, making injuries particularly difficult to heal. Survivors injured by a Bear Trap suffer from the Mangled Status Effect for 70 seconds.
	Secondary Coil	A secondary coil keeps the Bear Trap functional in times when the primary coil becomes unusable. Increases the Disarm time of the Bear Trap by +50 %.
	Tar Bottle	A black, matte and sticky substance that when applied to Bear Traps, makes them far less noticeable. Darkens the Bear Trap.
	Trapper Bag	A cured leather waist bag. Large and sturdy to transport hunting equipment. Increases the number of carried Bear Traps by +1.
	Honing Stone	When used with the Bear Trap, the stone sharpens its blades. The razor-sharp blades inflict deep wounds aimed at bleeding the victim as fast as possible. Survivors caught in a Bear Trap, who free themselves, are inflicted with the Dying State.
	Oily Coil	A clear oil that makes handling the Bear Trap's spring more hazardous. Resetting a Bear Trap reveals the Aura of the last Survivor to have disarmed it for 5 seconds.
	Tension Spring	A high tension spring that snaps back into place after being stretched. Automatically resets the Bear Trap 2 seconds after a Survivor escaped from it.
	Trapper Sack	A crude leather sack suitable for foraging. Causes all Bear Traps to be carried in your inventory at the beginning of the Trial. You can no longer pick up any placed Bear Traps, only reset them.
	Bloody Coil	Part sticky, part slippery, this grim liquid makes handling the Bear Traps spring more dangerous. When a healthy Survivor disarms a Bear Trap, the Bloody Coil exacts its price, putting the Survivor into the Injured State.
	Iridescent Stone	Bear Traps sharpened with the sickly gleaming stone seem to gain a life of their own. Automatically resets and arms a random disarmed Bear Trap every 30 seconds.

The Trapper's Alpha name was "Chuckles".
- In the Game Files, it is misspelt as "Checkles".
The Trapper is affiliated with the MacMillan Estate Realm in the Lore.
The Trapper was inspired by Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise.
The Trapper's mask might be inspired by the mask of the Babyface Killer from the 2009 movie The Hills Run Red, as both are cracked and resemble a human face.
Some renderings of The Trapper without his mask on can be found inside the Game Files, revealing that he's bald.
The Trapper was the first Killer to wear a face mask.
The Trapper is the first unlicensed Killer to appear in a commercial title outside of Dead by Daylight, appearing in the "Survivor of The Fog" Event in Ubisoft's For Honor.
- A Character in For Honor refers to The Trapper as "The Miserable Smiling Killer".
The Trapper stepping into a Bear Trap results in the Trap latching onto his left leg, which is referenced in some of his cosmetics, which feature braces of wraps around the extremities of said leg.
