=== Reporting Vandalism ===
In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always ''avoid a revert war'' with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene. If a user must be reported here, please use {{tl|user}}, preferably as the topic subject/headline.

Edits to Fandom wikis are always licensed under CC-BY-SA unless '''"explicitly permitted by Fandom, inc"'''. DocOctober is of course entitled to ask that his work not be shared without attribution, or for any commercial purpose, as are we all. He is ''not'' entitled to treat his contributions to this project as his own exclusive intellectual property, or to issue DMCA takedown requests, because he has already released them under a Creative Commons license. To do so is an abuse of the DMCA and of his position within this community.

:I'm very much entitled to the intellectual property of my wording and phrasing of Wiki articles, even under the Creative Commons licence. The DMCAs that I added were a TEMPORARY notice, suggested to be added by the Steam Support in cases of people literally copy-pasting Wiki articles as Steam Guides without giving proper accreditation (a violation of the Creative Commons licence, btw). The temporary DMCA allows the Steam moderators to remove Steam Guides that are literal copy-pastes without much fuss. I did plan on removing the DMCA again once the fraudulent Steam Guides were removed. If you feared I would slam every single article with a DMCA notice, you're seriously mistaken and overreacting.

Again, I followed the guidelines of the Steam support to resolve an issue swiftly and as easily as possible. People are allowed to quote the Wiki, I'm not disputing that and I take no issue with it. However, doing so requires that you give credit to either the Wiki as a whole or the author of the Wiki article you quote, and none of the Steam Guides in question did that, violating both the Creative Commons licence, as well as Steam Guidelines. You too mention that "[I am] of course entitled to ask that [my] work not be shared without attribution, or for any commercial purpose." That is exactly what I did, not more, not less.

Revision as of 07:23, 1 October 2021

The Admin Noticeboard is one way through which Users can notify Community Administrators of issues needing administrative attention.

While Users are welcome to directly contact specific Administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one Administrator will notice an issue and respond to it promptly.

Important: Remember to sign by adding four tildes: ~~~~ to the end of your post, when posting an issue.

Reporting Wiki Issues

Prior to posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This Page is for reporting Wiki issues only.
    • If you want to report an issue with the Game Template:IconLink itself, please refer to the Dead by Daylight Forum.
  • Do not post deletion requests here.
    • Deletion requests should be made by adding {{delete|reason for deletion request}} to the top of the target page, which will then automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.

Reporting Vandalism

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority.
Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion.
Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason.

Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning.
Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.
If a user must be reported here, please use {{user}}, preferably as the topic subject/headline.

Reported Typos and Missing Information

In case of typos, values in the wrong order, or missing/additional words, you may try to fix it yourself first.

The Wiki uses Templates to transclude descriptions of Add-ons, Perks, Items, Offerings, etc. across all article pages that feature it.
They are not stored on the page itself, but rather in a central Template, which is the one that needs to be edited to reflect the change across the Wiki.

The most common Templates are the following:

  • Template:Add-on desc: Add-on descriptions up to and including CHAPTER XV: Chains of Hate (Deathslinger)
  • Template:Add-on desc 2: Add-on descriptions after and including CHAPTER XVI: Silent Hill (Executioner) + Hillbilly & Cannibal
  • Template:Item desc: Item descriptions
  • Template:Offering desc: Offering descriptions
  • Template:Perk desc: Perk descriptions
  • Template:Pl: Perk values (the ones that change with the Perk's Tier)

These Templates are generally restricted to auto-confirmed users only and cannot be edited by anonymous user.

Please note that the Dead by Daylight Wiki uses British English spelling conventions (i.e. 'colour' instead of 'color', 'travelled' instead of 'traveled', etc).
These are not typos, should not be considered as such and should neither be reported nor "corrected".

DMCA

DocOctober has added something unusual to the articles Grades and Status HUD. At the bottom, under a section titled "DMCA" he includes the text:

Copyright 2021 by Doc October. This article is not authorised for posting on Steam as a Guide or other any other similar platforms.

I believe this contravenes Fandom's Terms of Use, specifically the Community Creation Policy and Licensing Terms. Edits to Fandom wikis are always licensed under CC-BY-SA unless "explicitly permitted by Fandom, inc". The edit window even says "Please note that all contributions to the Dead by Daylight Wiki are considered to be released under the CC BY-NC-SA 3.0". I'm very much entitled to the intellectual property of my wording and phrasing of Wiki articles, even under the Creative Commons licence.

You too mention that "[I am] of course entitled to ask that [my] work not be shared without attribution, or for any commercial purpose." That is exactly what I did, not more, not less.

I'll go ahead and remove the DMCA notices, the Guides have been removed in the mean time.
Also, I'm usually curt, I have little patience with people trying to interfere with stuff that is none of their business in the first place. If you knew me better, you'd know that.
