The Chase is an integral Game Mechanic in Dead by DaylightIconHelp DBDlogoIconHelp DBDlogoIconHelp DBDlogo.

Overview[]

DoubleChase

Two Survivors being chased simultaneously

The Chase describes the main interaction between the Gameplay of Killers and Survivors and is reflected by two opposing Emblems: Chaser (Killer) vs. Evader (Survivor).

Behaviour[]

Starting a Chase[]

A Chase is started whenever all three of the following conditions are met:

  1. A Survivor enters the Killer's Field of View within 12 metres of them.
  2. That Survivor is running.
  3. The Killer is walking.

If any single one of these three conditions is not met, the Game will not initiate a Chase.

Ending a Chase[]

There are several ways in which a Chase can be ended:

  • The distance between the Killer and the chased Survivor increases past 18 metres.
  • The Survivor hides for 5 seconds inside a LockerIconHelp lockersIconHelp lockersIconHelp lockers.
  • The Killer loses Line-of-Sight for more than 8 seconds.
  • The Survivor went past a viewing angle of ± 35 ° from the Killer's centre of their Field of Vision.
    • Killers have a default Field of Vision of 87 °, meaning that if Survivor is located outside the centre 70 ° from the Killer's POV, the Chase will end.

Bloodlust[]

The Chase mechanic also ties into the Bloodlust mechanic, increasing the Killer's Movement speed the longer a Chase lasts without the Killer getting a hit or breaking a PalletIconHelp pullDownIconHelp pullDownIconHelp pullDown.

Trivia[]

It is possible for the Killer to chase multiple Survivors at the same time, as reflected by the short Entity-claws on the HUD, though this condition is rarely upheld for more than a few seconds and usually only happens when a second Survivor intersects an on-going Chase of a first Survivor.
