Cages are Props which were implemented in Patch 4.0.0.
They spawn only in Trials against The Executioner or in the 2v8 Game Mode.
Overview[]
Cages behave similarly to Hooks and progress a Survivor's Hook Stages or Cage States.
They spawn in predetermined locations once a Survivor is sent to them.
They come in 2 different variants:
- Cage of Atonement
- Cage of Corruption
Behaviour[]
Cages work similarly to Hooks, but with some key differences.
Since they are not Hooks as such, they do not trigger any effects related to the actions of Hooking or Unhooking a Survivor.
Spawning[]
Cages generally spawn as far away from the Killer(s) as possible and will relocate if the Killer walks over and remains too close for an extended period of time.
Cages of Atonement[]
Cages of Atonement only appear in Trials against The Executioner
They progress a Survivor's Hook Stages as a regular Hook would and The Executioner can choose whether or not to use it.
Downed Survivors suffering from Torment can either be picked up and carried to a Hook as usual or alternatively be sent directly to a Cage of Atonement.
Cages of Corruption[]
Cages of Corruption only appear in Trials of the 2v8 Game Mode.
Since they replace Hooks entirely, they progress a Survivor's Cage States instead, which, for all intents and purposes, work the same as Hook Stages, and even count towards Safe Unhook challenges.
The colour of the individual Cage States (from the Killer POV) indicate which Killer sent a Survivor to a Cage of Corruption: red (you) or orange (the other Killer).
Killers in this mode are forced to use Cages of Corruption and thus cannot carry Survivors around.
Downed Survivors must be sent to a Cage of Corruption.
If a Survivor lands on a Killer's shoulder by any means (i.e. when grabbed), the Killer will automatically and immediately drop them to the ground.
Change Log[]
Patch 4.0.2[]
- Killer Buff: Killers can no longer see the Auras of Cages.
- Killer Nerf: if the Killer stays too close to a Cage for a few seconds, it will automatically relocate to a different area of the Map.
Patch 8.1.0[]
- Killer Buff: reduced the interaction time for sending Survivors to Cages.
- Change: added a new Cage variant, the Cages of Corruption, which are used exclusively in the 2v8 Game Mode and have a unique model based on Entity-Claws.
Trivia[]
- Cages are not considered Hooks and thus do not trigger any effects relying on the Hook or Unhook action.
- Cages of Atonement have a predetermined set of 6 randomly chosen locations through the environment in which they will spawn once a Survivor is sent to one.
- The Auras of Cages are exempt from the Blindness Status Effect.
