Survivor POV

Auras are an integral Game Mechanic in Dead by Daylight.


Overview[]

For a guide on some in-game distances to better gauge the working-radius of Aura-reading Perks, please refer to Distances.

Some Unlockables unlock potential in one's Aura-reading abilities.

Auras can be seen through any obstacles and usually across large distances.
Aura-reading abilities are great for locating Allies, Enemies or Objectives.


Types[]

There are three types of Auras in Dead by Daylight and each work in a unique way, with a unique purpose to them.

Aura-Reveal Aura[]

This is the default type of Auras and what Unlockables such as Perks mean when referring to "revealing the Player's/Object's Aura".

Auras highlight a Player or Object's entire model in a bright colour and through any solid objects that interfere with direct line-of-sight.

In case of revealing a Player, Auras are live and relay any of the Player's actions and movements in real-time to the Aura-reader for the duration of the Aura-reveal.

Auras can be revealed anything from for just a few seconds to indefinitely, depending on the Unlockable that caused their activation.

Auras are unique in that they can be blocked from being read or being revealed by interacting with Lockers.
Lockers block the Killer from reading the Aura of a Survivor hiding within one, while a Survivor is unable to read the Auras of anything outside the Locker at the same time.

Reveal Mechanism[]

It should be noted that Auras only reveal exactly the surface areas of a Player or Object's model that are currently obstructed by a solid object that interferes with line-of-sight.
This information is updated in real-time as well.

If, for example, a Survivor is being revealed to the Killer, but they are in plain sight of them, with only their feet hidden by blades of grass, only the parts of the Survivor's feet hidden by the blades will be revealed as an Aura, with the rest of the body remaining unhighlighted.
If that Survivor were then to move behind a wall, their entire body would become highlighted by the Aura.

Location-Reveal Aura[]

Location-Reveal Auras, also known as "Aura-Flare-up s", are what Unlockables mean when referring to "revealing the Survivor's/Object's Location".

Aura-Flare-ups are quite different to regular Auras as they only provide a momentary snapshot of a Survivor or Object's Location in the Trial Grounds (often, but not always, accompanied by a scream from affected Survivors).
They do not relay any other information to the Aura-reader and do not update in real-time.
They are always accompanied by a Loud Noise Notification.

Aura-Flare-ups show a generic red silhouette of a Survivor inside a Loud Noise Notification bubble.

Unlike Auras, Aura-Flare-ups have a fixed duration of just a few seconds, the same as the accompanying Loud Noise Notification.

Highlighting Aura[]

Highlighting Auras are only used in conjunction with certain Killer Powers, as well as the Game Mechanic Killer Instinct.
They are also used to signify to other Players the use and activation of the Perks Mettle of Man and Reassurance.

They solely highlight the outline of a Survivor's character model and are blocked by solid objects interfering with line-of-sight.


Aura Colours[]

Auras come in different colours.
Over the years, there have been several attempts at standardising Aura-colours for specific meanings.
The following table discerns the different meanings of Aura-colours.
It should be noted that one is not necessarily able to read these Auras by default:

Red Primary Objectives Reveals the Aura of momentary primary Objectives:
  • For Survivors:
    • Dying Survivor: the primary objective is to heal them
    • Hatch: the primary objective is to escape
  • For Killers:
    • Generators: the primary objective is to prevent their completion
    • Hooks: the primary objective is to hook a Survivor
    • Survivors: the primary objective is to hunt them down
    • Hex Totems: the primary objective is to prevent their destruction
Fuchsia Secondary Objectives Reveals the Aura of momentary secondary Objectives:
  • Totems (for Survivors): the secondary objective is to cleanse them
  • Chests (for Survivors): the secondary objective is to unlock them for an Item
Yellow Allied Objects Reveals the Aura of allied Objects:
  • Other Survivors (for Survivors): other Survivors are allies in the Trial against the Killer
  • Generators (for Killers): indicates a Survivor has recently interacted with a Generator
  • Vault Location: indicates Vault Locations that can be used or shut down
Pink Enemy Reveals the Aura of the enemy:
  • Killer (for Survivors): the Killer is the primary adversary of Survivors
Brass Killer Traps Reveals the Aura of Killer Traps when tracked through Maps:
  • Bear Traps
  • Blackened Catalyst Traps
  • Dream Snares
Orange Halloween Event Objectives Reveals the Aura of Halloween Event Objectives:
  • Generators (for Survivors): repairing Halloween Event Generators will grant bonus Bloodpoints
  • Hooks (for Killers): hooking Survivors onto Halloween Event Hooks will grant bonus Bloodpoints
Blue Event Objectives Reveals the Aura of Event Objectives:
  • Hooks (for Killers): hooking Survivors onto Event Hooks will grant bonus Bloodpoints
Purple Anniversary Objects Reveals the Aura of Anniversary Objects:
  • Crown Pillar
Light Blue Blessed Objects Reveals the Aura of allied Objectives:
  • Boon Totems (for Survivors): Boon Totems provide Survivors with special benefits

Additional Uses[]

  • In cases of Auras being used to showcase a progression of an action, the object's Aura will slowly transition from white when the action begins to red when the action has reached completion.

One of the advantages of possessing a mass-produced doll is easy access to replacement parts.
  • When in Hidey-Ho Mode, the Auras of all Windows and downed Pallets are revealed to you within 20 metres.
Heavy Water
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 7.0.0
A by-product of the micro-fission reactors powering cryo and life support.
Even a tiny leak would prove disastrous for onboard sensors.
Olibanum Incense Precious resin extracted from Boswellia trees, used during ceremonies for their sweet citrusy fragrance.
  • The Auras of Survivors cleansing at a Pool of Devotion are revealed to you for 4 seconds.


Rotting Rope Had the rope been stronger it would have likely held Kazan.
As it was, he escaped and butchered his captors.
  • Increases the Aura-reading range on Blood Orbs in the environment by +2 metres.

  • The Auras of Zombies are highlighted to you in yellow for 6 seconds when they hit a Survivor.


"All Seeing" - Mud THIS ADD-ON WAS DECOMMISSIONED (This Unlockable was decommissioned in the past and no longer exists in the current Game.)

The Kra-Frabai symbol, representing the Entity watching over us, is finger-drawn in mud on the head of the Bell.

Unlocks hidden potential in your Aura-reading ability:

  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you within 6 metres of your location when Cloaked.
Bad Man Keepsake A rotten molar ripped from the "Cataontic Boy's" cold dead hand.
Normally stable and calm, it becomes incredibly agitated at The Nurse's touch.
  • Survivors hit with a Special Attack have their Auras revealed to you, if they are healing or being healed within 28 metres of your location for 60 seconds.


Child's Wooden Sword Akito's practice sword.
The child had little use for it after his injury.
  • Increases the Aura-reading range on Blood Orbs in the environment by +3 metres.


Eroded Token A heavily worn out token made of brass.
If an inscription or drawing was once engraved in it, it has today completely disappeared.
  • The Auras of other Survivors within 24 metres are revealed to you while Mind Channel is active.

Eroded Token does not stack with Gold Token.

Glass Fragment A tiny piece of tinted glass, probably from a broken object.
It is impossible to determine its origin.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you for 3 seconds after stalking them for at least 1 second while in Evil Within I.


Green Dress A little girl's green dress with a silky white ribbon.

Survivors inside the Dream World suffer from the following effects:

  • The Auras of Survivors failing Repairing or Healing Skill Checks are revealed to you for 3 seconds.
  • Increases the Penalty for failing those Skill Checks by -4 %.
Lantern of Revealing
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.0.0
Even those who evade your attacks cannot evade your gaze.
  • The Auras of Survivors narrowly missed by Flying Entities summoned by the Flight of the Damned Spell are revealed to you for 3 seconds.
Last Known Recording
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 7.6.0

  • Reduces the Aura range of Hallucinations by -25 %.

  • The Auras of Marked Survivors performing rushed actions are revealed to you for 5 seconds.


Prototype Claws A home-made tool to facilitate bush trimming.

Switches the type of Dream Traps used in the Trial:

  • Start the Trial with 7 Dream Pallets.
  • The Auras of Survivors interacting with Dream Pallets are revealed to you for 4 seconds.
Pussy Willow Catkins A handful of small, pristine flower clusters covered in a fine greyish fur.
  • The Auras of Survivors tripping Phantasm Traps are revealed to you for 3 seconds.


Red Twine A bristly and rough piece of twine of a deep red colour.
Can be tied around the Map to enhance its Aura-reading ability.


Reflective Fragment A tiny piece of a highly reflective material most probably from a broken mirror.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you for 2 seconds after stalking them for at least 1 second while in Evil Within II.


Scratched Pearl A porous and scratched white pearl.
A minuscule jump ring allows the pearl to be attached to the key.
  • Increases the Aura-reading range of Keys by +12 metres.

Spyglass
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.4.0
Used to spot what one is looking for, no matter how far away.
  • The Auras of Survivors affected by Houndsense are revealed for 3 seconds after it ends.
Velvet Fabric A striking red fabric Carmina used on an art project.
Its brightness contrasted against black feathers.
  • The Auras of Swarms continue to be revealed to you for another 1.5 seconds after Survivors start repelling them.


Yellow Wire A small electrical wire.
Both ends are heavily damaged like it has been forcefully torn out of its intended location.
Can be tied around the Map to enhance its Aura-reading ability.

Blue Dress A little girl's pale blue dress with white lace which's front is ruined by large cuts.

Survivors inside the Dream World suffer from the following effects:

  • The Auras of Survivors failing Repairing or Healing Skill Checks are revealed to you for 4 seconds.
  • Increases the Penalty for failing those Skill Checks by -4 %.
Charcoal Stick A stick of charcoal that conceals anything it rubs over.
  • The Auras Dire Crows mid-flight are no longer visible to Survivors.
  • The Auras of Dire Crows are visible to Survivors for 0.5 seconds after summoning them.


Compound Twenty-One A serum that's fatal to humans.
It evokes beneficial qualities in those who are... something more.
  • The Auras of Survivors within 8 metres of a Slam are revealed to you for 3.5 seconds.


Eleven's Soda A soda can charged with psychic energy.
  • The Auras of Generators actively being repaired by Survivors are highlighted to you in yellow while traversing the Upside Down.


Gold Token A gold token with a dull appearance.
Both faces are smooth and void of any inscriptions.
  • The Auras of other Survivors within 48 metres are revealed to you while Mind Channel is active.

Gold Token does not stack with Eroded Token.

Infrared Upgrade
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 6.6.0
Heat-detecting cameras focus in on high-stress individuals with pinpoint accuracy.
  • The Auras of Claw-Trapped Survivors are revealed to you for 4 seconds after they remove their Claw-Trap.
Mirror Shard A large and sharp piece of a broken mirror.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you for 5 seconds after stalking them for at least 1 second while in Evil Within II.


Mother's Comb The comb Sadako's mother used in the tape.
Sadako's psychic abilities are enhanced when she focuses on it.


Paint Thinner A tin of a highly volatile and inflammable material.

Switches the type of Dream Traps used in the Trial:

  • Start the Trial with 7 Dream Pallets.
  • The Auras of Survivors interacting with Dream Pallets are revealed to you for 6 seconds.
Pungent Phial THIS ADD-ON WAS DECOMMISSIONED (This Unlockable was decommissioned in the past and no longer exists in the current Game.)

The clear liquid has a very particular stench that can be recognised and tracked by some animals.

  • Grants the ability to see the Auras of the spare Hatchets located inside Lockers when within 36 metres at all times.


Rat Poison
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 7.4.0
The secret ingredient in a killer chilli.
  • While performing a Slice & Dice Attack, the Auras of all Survivors within 12 metres of you are revealed to you for 5 seconds.
Rules Set No.2 Not all games need to have the same rules.
  • Disables the ability of Survivors to see the Auras of Jigsaw Boxes, until their Reverse Bear Trap becomes active.

"Listen, there are rules." — Jigsaw

Shop Lubricant An oil specifically formulated for Chainsaws.
A special additive prevents oil throw off.
  • The Auras of Survivors downed by Bubba's Chainsaw, if no other Survivors were within the Terror Radius, are hidden to other Survivors for 20 seconds.


Stylish Sunglasses Oval-shaped sunglasses that exude poise and cool.
Their colour-tinted lenses add an understated appeal.
  • The Auras of Survivors mending themselves within 24 metres of your location are revealed to you.


Training Bell
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.4.0
Even over great distances, it will notify a dog exactly where their owner is.
  • The Aura of the Survivor responsible for stunning The Dog is revealed to you for 5 seconds.
Willow Wreath Three frail willow branches attached to form a triangular wreath.
  • The Auras of Survivors tripping Phantasm Traps are revealed to you for 5 seconds.


Worry Stone While the Ottomarians were told to think only positive thoughts, some kept these stones in their pockets to rub when negative thoughts arose.
  • The Auras of Survivors locking a Locker are revealed to you for 6 seconds.


Yardstick

Good for measuring distance.
Even better for laying down a beating.
  • Performing a Scamper reveals the Auras of all Survivors within 16 metres of you for 3 seconds.

Amanda's Secret

A black metal box containing a knife and various medical supplies, such as bandages and compresses.
Deep cuts reduce stress and awaken the senses.
Blood Amber A blood-red amber striped with black veins.
The amber is warm to the touch.
  • The Aura of the Killer within 32 metres is revealed to you while Mind Channel is active.
  • Increases the Depletion rate by +100 %.


Chatterer's Tooth A fragment from a Cenobite whose mouth chatters endlessly.
This tooth, having broken from his jaw, is finally silent.
  • Grants the ability to see the Aura of the Lament Configuration.
  • Picking up the Lament Configuration deactivates an on-going Chain Hunt and grants the Undetectable Status Effect for 25 seconds.


Cigar Box A grim and incomplete collection of fingers.
Fills The Clown with longing and focuses his chemical crafting abilities.
  • The Auras of all other Players within 16 metres of their location are revealed to Invigorated Players for 6 seconds.


Crew Manifest
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 7.0.0
A complete list of biographical data on the entire crew of the ship sent to Dvarka.
  • The Aura of a Slipstreamed Survivor infecting another Survivor with Temporal Slipstream is revealed to you for 8 seconds.
  • Increases the Spreading distance of Temporal Slipstream between Survivors by +2 metres.
Crystal Bead An intricate set of lenses wrapped up in an astonishingly complex apparatus.
The gears controlling the lenses' focus move by themselves as to focus on something invisible to humans.
  • Reveals the tracked Auras to all Survivors.


Diagnostic Tool (Construction)
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.1.0
A device that gives highly accurate information on the lay of the land.
  • The Auras of Survivors picking up an EMP are revealed to you for 8 seconds.
Diamond Cufflinks Cufflinks gouged into the eyes of a sasaeng fan who made the mistake of stalking Ji-Woon.
Rubbing off the blood, there is so much to be seen in the glitter.
  • The Auras of Survivors one hit away from maximum Laceration are revealed to you for 6 seconds.

"Shhh... you don't have to see your blood anymore." — Ji-Woon Hak

Distorted Photo Those who have watched the tape find all photos of themselves distorted, a reminder of their impending doom.
  • Causes all Survivors within 16 metres of your location who witness your Manifestation to scream and reveal their Auras for 4 seconds.

"Why is it only you were saved?" — Sadaoka Yamamura

Flint and Steel
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.1.0
Attacks at night were not uncommon.
Fear was often their greatest ally.

Summoning The Carnifex has the following effect:

  • The Auras of all Survivors within 24 metres of unbroken Pallets are revealed to you for 8 seconds.
Glowing Concoction An otherworldly concoction that faintly glows a foreboding light.
  • Survivors hit by Hatchets have their Aura revealed to you for 5 seconds.


Greasy Black Lens A lens from the sunglasses of an obese Cenobite whose fleshy rolls droop down his face and neck.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to for 6 seconds after hitting them with a Possessed Chain Attack.


Healing Poultice
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.1.0
Their reputation was so large, so horrible, that the mere knowledge that they were coming was enough to bring people to their knees.

Summoning The Assassin has the following effect:

  • The Auras of all Survivors within 8 metres of his Spawn location are revealed to you for 8 seconds.
Helicopter Stick Debris from a helicopter crash.
Few jobs are more dangerous than a helicopter pilot's when Wesker is involved.


Jailer's Chimes
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.1.0
Many captives met the same grisly end for attempting to escape his clutches.
  • The Auras of Survivors crossing the Patrol Path of The Jailer are revealed to you for 8 seconds.
Jigsaw's Sketch A disturbing, yet brilliant, trap design sketched in detail on a sheet of paper.
  • Increases the number of carried Reverse Bear Traps by +1.
  • The Auras of Generators being repaired by Survivors wearing a Reverse Bear Traps are highlighted to you in yellow.


Jill's Sandwich It is tragically squished and dripping with blood from a recent battle.
Despite that, it has a delicious aroma that cannot be missed.
  • The Auras of Survivors unlocking a Supply Case are revealed to you for 12 seconds after they succeed.


Lavalier Microphone She kept a lavalier mic nearby, allowing her to record her innermost feelings when under great stress.
  • The Auras of all Survivors are revealed to you for 3 seconds after consuming the last Power Token.
  • Causes all Lockers within 6 metres of Survivors to open and slam their doors when entering them through teleporation.


Light Chassis A light and durable Chainsaw chassis with a shorter guide bar.
Makes the Chainsaw easier to handle.
  • The Auras of Survivors within 8 metres are revealed to you while revving Bubba's Chainsaw.


Matias' Baby Shoes A grieving reminder to Carmina that Matias would be with her, always watching.
  • The Auras of Survivors within 5 metres of idle Dire Crows are revealed to you for 3 seconds.

"See you soon, Matias." — Carmina Mora

Oily Coil A clear oil that makes handling the Bear Trap's spring more hazardous.
  • Resetting a Bear Trap reveals the Aura of the last Survivor to have disarmed it for 5 seconds.


Robe of Eyes
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.0.0
When worn, none can escape its bearer's unyielding gaze.
  • The Auras of Survivors within 8 metres of a Treasure Chest are revealed to you for 3 seconds after casting a Spell.
Scratched Mirror A standing portable vanity mirror which has been violently scratched with a sharp metallic object.
  • The Auras of all Survivors within 32 metres of your location are revealed to you while Stalking.
  • Evil Within can no longer progress past Tier I.
  • Grants +200 % bonus Bloodpoints in the Deviousness Category for Hit Score Events on top of the regular Bloodpoints granted in the Brutality Category.


Semiotic Keyboard
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 7.2.0
Its symbols are designed to be universally recognisable, but they may take some getting used to.
Stab Wounds Study A printed medical article stolen from Ormond's public library, vulgarising a study on lesions and stab wounds.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you for 4 seconds after they mend themselves.


Tape Editing Deck
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 7.5.0
The editing deck used by Reiko and Ryuji to analyse and copy the tape.
Copying and sharing the tape is the only way to survive the curse.
  • Causes all Survivors start the Trial with a VHS Tape.
    • All Survivors must bring their VHS Tape to the TV that is farthest from their current location.
  • The Auras of Survivors inserting a VHS Tape into a TV are revealed to you for 6 seconds.
"Frolic in brine, goblins be thine." — Message hidden in Sakado's Tape
Unique Wedding Ring An engraved wedding ring that emerged from the Fog and resonates with an indescribable and incomprehensible energy.
  • The Aura of the Obsession is automatically revealed to you at all times.
    • This does not require using the Mind Channel ability.

Reduces your chance of becoming the initial Obsession by reducing the default value by -100 %.

Uroboros Virus For some, the strength and resistance was worth the trade-off.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you for 4 seconds when they reach Critical Infection.

Vanity Mirror A standing portable vanity mirror in perfect condition except for a fine layer of dust and face powder covering it.
  • The Auras of all Survivors within 16 metres of your location are revealed to you while Stalking.
  • Evil Within can no longer progress past Tier II.
  • Grants +150 % bonus Bloodpoints in the Deviousness Category for Hit Score Events on top of the regular Bloodpoints granted in the Brutality Category.


Victor's Soldier A toy soldier Victor clung to when scared.
Something about it evoked jealousy in Charlotte.
  • The Auras of Survivors are revealed to you for 6 seconds after crushing Victor when controlling Charlotte.

Warg's Fang
This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 8.2.0
A mighty tool of destruction taken from one of Dracula's most dangerous allies.
  • The Auras of all Survivors whose Scent Orbs you collected are revealed to you for 4 seconds whenever the Pounce Attack becomes available.
"All Seeing" - Spirit The Kra-Frabai symbol, representing the Entity watching over us, ominously glows on the head of the Bell.

    • This effect lasts for as long as you both remain within 16 metres of one another.
Blood Pact is temporarily disabled if you yourself are the Obsession.

Reduces your chance of becoming the initial Obsession by reducing the default value by -100 %.

  • Reduces their Field of View and causes them to be deafened.
  • Suffers from the Blindness Status Effect.
  • Reduces the Crawling speed by -50 %.
  • Reduces the Recovery speed by -25 %.

Free from your shackles, you are born anew and prepared to eliminate your creators.

After performing the Damage Generator action, Machine Learning activates:

  • Causes that Generator to become a Compromised Generator.
    • Damaging another Generator transfers the state to it instead.
  • The Aura of the Compromised Generator is highlighted to you in yellow until it is completed.
Once the Compromised Generator is completed, you benefit from the following effects for 35/40/45 seconds: Machine Learning deactivates after use.

Each time a Survivor is hooked on a Scourge Hook for the first time, 1 Token is consumed and the following effects apply:

  • The Generator with the most Progression explodes and instantly regresses by 10/15/20 % of its total Progression.
  • Normal Generator Regression applies afterwards.
  • All Survivors repairing that Generator will scream, but not reveal their location.
